
Joanne Tracy Carruthers
Joanne began her career in enrollment management as a Liaison Officer at Bishop’s University (Sherbrooke, Quebec) in 1993 and joined Stanstead College (Stanstead, Quebec), an independent Canadian boarding school, in 1995. Over three decades, she held progressively senior leadership roles, including Director of Admissions, Associate Head of School, Acting Head of School, and Head of School.
Throughout her career at Stanstead College, Joanne played a pivotal role in strengthening the school and navigating significant challenges, helping lead its growth from low enrolment during the 2008–09 economic downturn to record enrolment in 2024. She also contributed extensively to the broader boarding school community, serving on national and international boards and committees and as President of the Small Boarding Schools Association from 2010 to 2016.
A passionate educator and mentor, Joanne coached several sports, advised students, and supervised boarding residences. Known for her compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to students and colleagues, she was widely regarded as a trusted leader and moral compass within the school community. Her leadership, positive spirit, and dedication continue to make her a valued contributor to independent education.
